Set in a muggy rainforest 30 miles northwest of Tulum, the imposing city of Coba is a fascinating and increasingly popular site. It was settled between two lakes, and linked by a causeways network to all surrounding cities. Spaniards never spotted this sensational archeological site, lost in the middle of a lush tropical rain forest.

Recently, scarcely explored; first by the Carnegie Institute (Washington), and lately by the Mexico’s Anthropology and History National Institute, Clearly illustrates the city long occupation since 100 AD reaching an amazing 50,000 inhabitant population.
Coba’s most surprising characteristics are; a resemblance to the lowlands of Guatemala and Honduras Mayan cities, and the giant Nohoch Mul; tallest pyramid within the Yucatan Peninsula and strikingly similar to the ones in famous Tikal.
The tall jungle around Coba is home to toucans, egrets, and herons, spider monkeys, hauling monkeys, deer, boar, jaguar and myriad tropical butterflies including the giant electric blue morphidae.
